A great tarpon trip starts before you step aboard. This Florida tarpon fishing information will help you plan a private charter with Capt. Andy Boyette, from choosing your dates to packing for the day. Boca Grande is the main focus, with Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf beaches offering other opportunities as conditions change.

I guide tarpon charters from April through October. Tell me when you will be here, how many people are coming and whether you have fished for tarpon before. We can then choose a trip that fits your group.
First-time tarpon anglers are welcome. I explain the tackle and help you through the fight, so you can concentrate on the experience.
When to plan your tarpon fishing trip
The season runs from April through October. Tarpon move through different parts of the area, so the plan depends on tides, weather and fish movement. Boca Grande Pass, Charlotte Harbor and the nearby beaches each offer a different setting.
Hill tides bring stronger tidal flow around new and full moons. They are one part of the season, and good fishing is also possible between those periods. If you have flexibility, mention it when we discuss your dates.
What is included, and what should you bring?
Ready on the boat
- Rods, reels, bait and tackle
- Fishing-license coverage for your charter
- An onboard cooler and ice
- Guidance from Capt. Andy throughout your trip
Pack for your day
- Food, drinking water and your preferred beverages
- A hat, sun protection and polarized sunglasses
- Clothing suited to the weather
- A phone or camera for your memories
If you bring a cooler, choose a small soft-sided or collapsible cooler that fits below deck. Keep extra bags compact to leave room for everyone to fish. If you would like to use your own fishing equipment, ask me about it before the trip.
Trip times and designated pickup locations
Six-hour trips are offered from 6 AM to noon or from 1 PM to 7 PM, subject to availability. Eight- and ten-hour charters have variable start times so we can plan around the fishing.
Pickup is arranged at designated docks. I will confirm the meeting point and time directly with you. Let me know if you are staying in Boca Grande, Placida, Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte, Cape Coral or Fort Myers so we can discuss the available arrangements.
A few things to know before reserving
Charters accommodate a maximum of four anglers. Rates cover one to three people, with an additional charge for a fourth. A deposit holds your date, and we will discuss booking terms before you reserve.
Weather decisions are at the captain’s discretion. Keep your phone available before the trip so we can confirm any changes. Tarpon fishing takes patience; more time on the water creates more opportunity, but no trip can promise a catch.
